Speech Error
Speech
production often appears to be an effortless task. Speakers think what they
want to say and say it automatically. In a specific occasion surely such
effortlessness is not true. Speakers often need thoughtful planning before
executing the speech they want to produce. thus speech production follows at
least two processes: planning and execution.
when speaking, speakers take the already formulated plans and execute
them. speech which runs quite smoothly is called ideal delivery. however, not
all goes well in everyday speech. the actual speech execution is often filled
with errors; this is due to the intermixture between planning and execution.
the most common speech errors which disrupt ideal delivery are pausing and
hesitation, repeat, and stutters. the existence of such speech errors give us
indications of the units of planning, the process of word selection, and how
words and syntax are planned and
assembled. in sum we can say that speech errors give us evidence that speech
productions follow the process of planning and the execution of the plan.
